BARB AND TONY'S EXCELLENT GARFIELD ADVENTURE

A visit to the Garfield Stuff Store at the Muncie Mall

or how to go from St Louis to Muncie and back in 29 hours!

So, I was sitting at home one evening when Barbara called and said: "What are you doing this weekend?". When I asked why she wanted to know she replied : "We need to go to the Garfield Store in Muncie." I explained that I needed to plan things a little farther in advance. We compared schedules and agreed on the weekend of November 16th.

Barb and her husband, Romeo left Des Moines early on Saturday the 16th and arrived in St Charles around 2 pm. I had to work until 3 and then we had to load up the van and take care of a few other details. We departed the St Louis area at 5 pm. After a leisurely drive in the dark, we arrived in Muncie around Midnight (losing an hour due to the time-zone change) Our good friend (and GTN charter member) Tracy Springer opened her home to us for a place to stay, saving us those expensive hotel costs (MORE money for Garfield stuff!). After a little catching up, it was off to bed (and couch).

Sunday morning we got up a little later than planned. A quick breakfast, then we piled in to the van and we were off. Our first stop:

PAWS: THE HOUSE THAT GARFIELD BUILT

Because it was Sunday, the offices were closed. (Although there were some people around the place.) We drove around the grounds and got out to look at a few things. I hope to get a better look in June.

After a quick stop at Big Lots, it was off to:

THE GARFIELD STUFF STORE

When we walked into the Muncie Mall the first thing we were greeted by was a Garfield Christmas tree.

A short walk down the mall and there it is!

We're here!

Let the shopping begin!

Barb:"I'll take one of everything."

"Does the 25% off apply to the polo ponies?"

Ceramic heaven.

Unfortunately, this wasn't for sale.

We found some pretty good deals and some things that we hadn't seen before. A quick lunch and then off to:

THE MUNCIE CHILDREN'S MUSEUM

The museum has a permanent Garfield exhibit. It is right across the street from the main hotel and the convention center for Garfield Gathering 2003. You can check it out in June. You ARE coming aren't you?

This is the way.

Look both ways!

You can co-star in a Garfield animated cartoon.

Some collectibles.

Create your own comic.

After looking around the museum, we stopped by the gift shop where we bought MORE stuff. Then we dropped Tracy off at home. On our way out of town we stopped in to visit Gary Skinner (Garfield Gathering 2003 co-host). Gary was VERY accomodating, letting us look over his collection and chatting about Garfield for a long time (on his ONLY day off that week). We finally hit the road for home at 5 pm. Another leisurely drive in the dark, and we arrived back in St Louis at 10 pm. After resting for a while, Barb & Romeo headed back to Des Moines.

30 hours from start to finish, with 12 of them spent driving. Quite a trip.
